Please visit my website and my blog: | Hallways are transitional spaces. Frank Lloyd Wright stated that hallways were crucial to the arrival experience. Color palette and lighting need to provide an appealing passage to the surrounding rooms. A hallway can be creatively designed. Colors can differ from other design elements such as furniture, artwork and windows. Hallways are the appetizers to the meal, the precursors to the following rooms.
In my opinion the criteria for good interior design are clear space planning, harmonious color choices, practical selection and placement of furniture, but above all,the expression of the personality of the home owners. Often mementos, artwork or a piece of furniture carry emotional value for the client. It is my job to make these items fit into the overall design look. The desired result is to create a home of comfort and warmth Stripes, bright and fun. or muted and sophisticated can add visual interest to any room in your home without costing a lot. Striped pillows, throws and curtains can instantly update a room. Stripes on your walls can look sophisticated and tailored. “adapted from Style and Home” “Decorating in the New Economy” is the title of my presentation in the boardroom at the Esmeralda Resort and Spa, Indian Wells, Ca. on Sunday,November 20th, at 11 a.m. The Show features exciting speakers and exhibits on a broad spectrum of interests to women –but not only to women. Skulls, medical statues and bell jars full of brains make a ghastly grouping. THE SCARIER THE BETTER Christiane is one of the world’s most recognizable face –and voice. Born in Iran and raised in England she came to the U.S. to study at the University of Rhode Island. As a journalist she travelled the hot spots of the world. The interior of her home on Central Park in New York City is filled with art and objects she acquired during her travels. From an interior designers point of view this is fabulous. It is creative. It fascinates. It preserves and brings to live precious memories. To my traveling clients I recommend to adopt this custom. Roughed up Consumers are looking at patterns and sparkle to make a bold statement.Wallpapers and especially embellished, tactile papers enjoy increasing popularity. The 3D look can alter a room without structural renovation. The tactile surfaces create a different visual aspect because the light play changes with the time of day Touchable Texture Metaliic Gold Paper Bar at Hotel de Crillion In my never ending search for inspiration and new ideas I was impressed by a WSJ article about the L.A. designer,Kelly Wearstler who is known for her bold interiors. In addition to residential projects she has decorated boutique hotels, has written books on the subject and has launched several home product lines, accessories and jewelry. I do relate to her following quote:“I knew that I had it made in the business when I was finally able to stop waiting on tables.”Here are some ideas:- ‘The biggest decor faux pas has to be unneccessary clutter. This is what drawers are for’.
- If you want major drama in your home quick and easy, paint. Don’t forget the ceiling. It adds depth.
- If you rent but want to redecorate. Choose large scale art.
Is GOOGLE making memory obsolete?Studies have determined that search engines change the way the brain stores information. We are adapting to powerful new technology by altering how we think. GOOGLE is becoming the brain’s external hard drive. The Web fragments information that can be digested in a two minute visit. But only learning leads to deep understanding.GOOGLE will not make us illiterate,The Internet discusses thousands of subjects. The computer gives us instant access to an ever expanding body of human knowledge. Does the Internet provide us with all we need to know? Of course not! Does it on the whole make us smarter? It sure does! As part of the fabric of human knowledge this is also relevant to Interior Design and Interior Decorating. In part from “The Week” Architecture inspires interior design. Architecture is a visual expression of the quintessence of its period in time. The concert hall in Los Angeles, created by Frank Gehry, is a towering example. It emerges from the drab L.A. downtown area like a vision of the future. With imagination it soars into the sky like lofty clouds or surges like powerful ocean waves. The interior displays simple lines and muted colors to focus the senses in preparation for the music. The acoustics are clear and crisp even in the gentle pianissimos. The organ bursts from the back of the center stage like a giant plant with the organ pipes like branches reaching over the orchestra towards the audience. The music of Johannes Brahms, the restrained conducting of Kurt Mazur and the magical violin of Sarah Chang completed a perfect evening.
